The problem
Someone reaching this organisation is often deciding something irreversible on a short timeline. Every extra click between arriving and finding a real person is a cost. The platform had to surface local resources quickly, coordinate volunteers who respond, and carry first-hand stories — without ever feeling like a directory.
The approach
The design assumption is that someone arriving is deciding something irreversible on a short timeline, usually on a phone, possibly for the first time. Every screen is measured against one question: does this get them to a person faster? Resources are organised by urgency rather than category, volunteer routing sends an enquiry to a named responder instead of a shared channel nobody owns, and the story archive sits alongside the directory so the first impression is people rather than paperwork.
